2004 Show Year

End of Year
High Point Categories
(aka Yearend Awards)

OVERALL RULES
For Participation
in the Year-End Awards

1. Membership in SWA must be paid and current for ponies or Cobs to be eligible for awards and accumulate points. No retroactive points to be assigned, points only accumulated after the date membership is paid (or postmarked if mailed).

2. The same number of points are earned for classes in Bronze, Silver, or Gold rated shows.

3. You must attend a percentage of shows offered during the year to qualify for year end awards. This depends on the number of shows offered and can change from year to year. If SWA has more than 2 shows, attendance at 2 is required. You can not attend only one show and be eligible for the awards. If we only have one show, there will be no year end awards offered.

4. Ponies or Cobs must attend at least two SWA sanctioned shows to qualify for an award, not necessarily in the same division at each one. (exception is equitation classes)

5. The same number of points will be given, no matter how many entries show in a class. If one entry shows, that entry will receive 10 points. Our system was set up that way to reward those who show consistently at our shows, and we prefer to encourage those who actually show up by not reducing their points when others whom they have NO control over, do not show up.

6. Our point awarding system is as follows:

First place=10 points

Second place=8 points

Third place=6 points

Fourth place=4 points

Fifth place=2 points

Sixth place=1 point

Supreme=5 points

Res Supreme=3 points

Championships for performance classes, and Halter Grand Championships receive 4 points for Champion and 3 points for Reserve. To receive these extra points there must be three entries in the classes for performance, and three exhibitors in the Halter Grand class.

Yearend Halter Rules for Halter Category. When an out of state, or long distance SWA Gold or Silver show is held, such as in TN or MS, and there are double-judged halter classes, only one set of awards (your best) from one of the judges counts for SWA yearend points.

Year End Award Categories Offered by the SWA are as follows:

Halter Awards

(Champion and Reserve Champion is awarded in each section)

v Section A Welsh

v Section B Welsh

v Section C and D Welsh (may be divided into Section C and Section D separately if enough entries to warrant it)

v Half Welsh.

Ridden Cob

(does not count for the English Pleasure category, but it does count for overall awards, as does trail, etc.) When there is a Ridden Cob Championship in which the Ridden Cobs compete with the Ridden Ponies and are judged and worked separately as a class in itself, and there are four or more in the class with individual work off, it will count as a separately judged class and scored as such.

Performance Awards

(not divided by age: may be divided if enough participation, Champion and Reserve awarded in each category)

v Western Pleasure (English Pleasure is usually divided by age)

v Pleasure Driving, Carriage Driving, (these two are combined if the same pony wins both divisions and then becomes just Driving). If divided they will be called Pleasure Driving and Carriage Driving. To be divided if different exhibitors win in each division, to give more folks an opportunity to win an award.

v Versatility Award (can be awarded to an adult if requirements are met, see Jr. Versatility for details)

v The Canterbury Schooling Dressage Series -
High Score Welsh Exhibitor -  Score-sheet or written verification by show official must be presented to awards tallying committee.  Award to be presented for single highest score, no minimum number of classes/shows necessary.  If entries warrant, may be divided Junior/Senior.

v Volunteer of the Year, to be decided by the Awards committee, person winning does not have to be a member, can be a family member of an exhibitor, or other as decided.

Junior Performance Awards

(Champion and Reserve awarded in each)

v Short Stirrup

v Walk/Trot

v Lead Line

v English Pleasure 17 & under

v Hunter 17& under

v Western Pleasure Junior can be offered and split from the adults if the number of entries warrant.

v Jr. Versatility split from adult if entries warrant. Rules are: Must show in three different types of performance divisions and enter those divisions at two or more shows. To qualify these must be different types of disciplines such as:

English/Western Hunters, or Trail, Driving, English, NOT English Pleasure, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunters, these must be DIFFERENT types of divisions and show true versatility.

Adult Performance Awards

(Champion and Reserve awarded in each)

v English Pleasure 18 & over

v Western Pleasure can be split in adult and Jr. if enough entries to warrant

v Hunter 18 & over

THE “YOU NEVER OUTGROW A WELSH AWARD”, or Y.N.O.W. Award

an overall Highest Scoring adult exhibitor award, patterned after the Stephanie Abronson National Award of the same name. Everything counts for this. Halter classes can count, or not count, to be determined by the awards committee on a given individual year.

Note: Now that we are having OPEN classes at our shows, we are considering offering an award(s) to include the all breed exhibitor, in our Year End Award Program. An example would be Open exhibitors Jr. and/or Open exhibitor Adult, or 18 & over.

What do you think about this? Feel free to contact us with your suggestions about this and let us know what kind of classes you want to see in the Open classes of our Welsh Shows.
